EVENT PREVIEW: Wright Motorsports Aims to Give Brynjolfsson and VOLT Racing Proper Sendoff at Petit

BRASELTON, Ga., (October 11, 2023) – As the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship prepares to conclude the 2023 race season this weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Wright Motorsports will be looking to give driver Alan Brynjolfsson and the VOLT Racing program a successful result. Following the ten-hour finale, Brynjolfsson will step back from professional motorsport competition. This weekend’s Petit Le Mans will set the stage for the joint group’s final race of the year, which celebrated a podium finish earlier this year at Lime Rock Park.

The final endurance racing event of the season will see full-season drivers Brynjolfsson and Trent Hindman once again joined by Max Root. Root is a previous champion with Wright in GT World Challenge America. The 11-race championship will draw to a close this weekend at the always-exciting Petit Le Mans, a 10-hour sports car race featuring drivers from all over the world battling on the 2.54-mile, 12-turn road course in Braselton, Georgia.

“We’ve made a lot of strides as a team this season as we continue the process of developing the new Porsche 911 GT3 R,” said Team Owner John Wright. “After winning the Michelin Pilot Challenge last year, Alan and VOLT Racing took the step up to the GTD class, one of the most competitive in the IMSA WeatherTech series. We can be nothing but proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together, and we hope to send Alan off on a high note this weekend.”

The scenic setting will come alive with the sound of race cars as the IMSA WeatherTech competitors kick off the first of three practice sessions on Friday afternoon. A total of 54 entries will be competing in the event, bringing all five IMSA WeatherTech classes together one final time in the 2023 season. The GTD class will make up 35 percent of the field, with seven different manufacturers being represented in the group. The field will qualify to set the grid on Friday afternoon, which will air live on imsa.com/tvlive.

The 26th Annual Motul Petit Le Mans will begin on Saturday, October 14 at 11:40 AM Eastern, streaming live in the United States from start to finish on Peacock. Cable subscribers can watch the final three and a half hours of TV coverage on USA, while international fans can stream live on imsa.tv.

DRIVER QUOTES

Alan Brynjolfsson 54 car field on a short, fast, full commitment track equals intensity! This is going to be an action-packed race. It’s going to be a game of survival. It’s also my last race, potentially ever, so I am going to cherish every moment of it and reflect on how lucky I am to be here.

Trent Hindman Obviously, this is a very important weekend not only because it’s the final round of our IMSA Weathertech Championship season, but also the final time Alan and I will drive together for the foreseeable future. We’ve had an excellent six-year run together, and all focus is on achieving exceptional results at Petit Le Mans, which judging by our test a few weeks ago, is absolutely possible. As always, I have the highest level of confidence in our team, Alan & and Max, and know we will be in the hunt come Saturday evening.

Max Root I’m really looking forward to getting back with the Wright Motorsports team in the No. 77 VOLT Lighting Porsche 911 GT3 R. Alan and Trent have done a phenomenal job continuing the campaign of the championship and developing the new car. This is one of the best tracks we have on the calendar, and I’m really looking forward to battling for ten hours on Saturday.
